How do you find a Michigan truck driving school that fulfils all your expectations?
The answer is, through a thorough research of both the state’s trucking industry, and the educational facilities dedicated to drivers’ training. Despite the overwhelming volume of information; particularly on the Internet, it’s not an easy task. The problem lies in finding information that is not only current, but truthful and objective.
If you speak to the owner or manager of one of the privately run truck driving schools, you’ll hear many accolades. How well regarded their school is, how almost every graduate ends up in the job paying much more than the industry average, how their tuition fees are the lowest in Michigan, etc.
When you speak with some of their recent graduates, if you’re given a chance, the reality is presented quite differently. Old trucks were used for training, teachers were often absent and classes had to be postponed. On average, there were eight students per driving instructor, and the time allocated to each attendee made it impossible to learn the arcana of driving the truck in high traffic areas.
As a result, only 57% of students passed the exam at their first attempt. Afterwards, the school received many negative comments from the Professional Truck Driver Institute accreditation unit. And more importantly, the school would have no reason to lift up its performance, and deliver the training they have promised in their glossy brochures.
